The Magpies were without manager Joe Kinnear in their last game as he was hospitalized for heart surgery. However they gave a full-blooded performance that saw them beat West Brom 3-2. Goals from Damien Duff, Peter Lovenkrands and Steve Taylor ensured that a brace from Marc Antoine-Fortune was in vain for the Baggies.

Damien Duff in particular was in splendid form as he guided Newcastle to a much-needed win, which sees them occupy the 13th spot on the league table with 27 points from 25 games.

Newcastle have a massive injury crisis at the club, which was precipitated by news that striker Xisco will be out for at least one month after breaking his foot in a reserve game against Wigan last Monday. However Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith could be back after recovering from their respective injuries.

Everton continue to impress this season as they beat Bolton 3-0 last fortnight thanks to a brace from on-loan striker Jo and another goal from Mikel Arteta. The win saw the Toffees occupy the 6th spot on the league table with 40 points from 25 games.

Manager David Moyes will hope his side can challenge for a UEFA Cup spot at the end of the season. The arrival of Jo from Man City on loan has strengthened the Everton side, who were without a fir striker for most of this year.
